How to Be Productive While You WFH

Working from home as a remote employee is quickly becoming the new normal for many across the globe. From marketing services to administrative tasks to even virtual therapy sessions, the online world is awake and working 24/7 these days. If you’re new to #WFHlife, you’ve come to the right place because at Shelby And Company Inc. we like to call ourselves experts when it comes to remote work. Would you expect anything less? We certainly didn’t think so.

Turn your phone on DND and let’s dive right in.

Here are 8 proven strategies our team thrives off of when it comes to being your most productive self while you work from wherever you’re connected to WiFi.

  1. Time block your daily schedule. Set your phone alarm for 30 minute or 1 hour increments to designate that time to one task to focus on.

  2. Don’t forget to move your body. Every hour on the hour, get up and move around your home or walk Fluffy and Fido around the block for 10-15 minutes. By moving your body, you’ll be increasing the blood flow to the brain getting all those creative juices flowing. We all need a little bit more of that in our life, don’t we?

  3. Get up each morning and shower just like normal. Treat your days like you would normally if you typically leave home for work. Despite most #WFH thoughts and benefits, staying in your pj’s all day can actually hinder your mindset, motivation, and productivity levels. And, nobody’s got time for that.

  4. Turn off the notifications on your phone while you need to focus in on your work tasks. Put it on “Do Not Disturb” or “Airplane Mode” and get to work. Go as far as putting it in the other room if you need to. Our phones are a constant distraction with the buzzing of calls and notifications and when you work from home they become even more distracting with the ease of access. This goes for your computer notifications too! We’re looking at you Macbook texters…

  5. Designate a workspace or office. Trust us when we say your bed doesn’t really count here. Spiffy up your favorite corner to be your shiny new home office and throw in a plant while you’re at it. Don’t forget the lamp too, we don’t want you straining your eyes while you type away throughout your workday.

  6. Utilize Zoom, Facetime, Trello, Asana and Slack to communicate with your team effectively and seamlessly as you all typically need to be on the same page with your projects. These are just a few of our favorite platforms, but there are plenty more helpful tools in the online world just waiting to be tapped into.

  7. Last but not least, give yourself some grace (and patience) as you adjust to your new normal. Change is hard, no matter how exciting your new #WFH routine may be. Your schedule and environment may look a bit different than you’re used to, but by creating new habits and rituals to your work routine, slowly but surely you’ll be rocking the remote employee life before you know it. It may take some time with a few adjustments here and there, but you can do it and here at Shelby And Co, we’ll definitely be cheering you on along the way.
