How to Write an Elevator Pitch

What is an elevator pitch?

This type of pitch is a short synopsis of who you are and what your company does. An elevator pitch gets its name from the thought that you should be able to introduce yourself and your business in the length of time it takes to ride in an elevator. That’s a short amount of time! Because of how brief this time is, you need to always be prepared for this sort of speech.

Why are elevator pitches important?

This is a highly applicable skill, these are the sort of pitches you would likely give in a leads group, when meeting potential customers, etc. Ideally, you should be able to cover who you are, what you do, and what you want to do in a short amount of time.

Here is an example,

Hi! My name is Shelby Joiner, I’m the CEO of Shelby & Company, INC. We help businesses in Arkansas and other states accomplish their marketing goals through digital marketing. We focus on the needs of our customers and providing the best service possible. We do everything from Social Media Management to SEO. With my company, I hope to help businesses meet their goals and reach a wider audience.

Key elements of an elevator pitch:

  • No more than 60 seconds.

  • Focus on the vital points. Who you are, what you do, and what you want to achieve.

  • Mentioning your goals is pivotal.

It’s your turn!

Take the next 10 minutes to write down your elevator pitch. Practice this every day. Practice makes perfect! You can do this!
