The Importance of Social Media for Your Business

It’s no mystery that we live in a digital age. Every avenue of the world can be conducted online, from business, to banking, to chatting with friends. The culture is highly influenced by the online landscape and reaches vast amounts of people at record speed. The days of want ads and newspapers have been left behind by many, making room for Google and Social Media to take over.
With how much the landscape of advertising has changed, it’s important to reevaluate how you, as a business, should market your products and/or services. Billboards only go so far these days, as more and more people start to work from home. The online world is your oyster, it's time to start taking advantage of it!
Why is social media important to my business?
Social Media opens up so many opportunities and pathways to build your business and grow your customer base. It's more important than ever to market your business online. Linkedin reported in 2020 that “[businesses] active on social media report 45% more sales opportunities.” Also, Statista reports that 69% of Americans use facebook. Imagine being able to market to that many people simultaneously.
Now that you know why it's so important, how do you start incorporating social media into your strategy?
The first step is, if you haven’t already, to make a business page on all major social media platforms. We recommend LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. The best part about marketing by having a page on social media, is that it’s free! It costs absolutely nothing to make and run a page on your own.
Now that you’ve made a page, what do you post and how often? Shelby & Company recommends 3-4 posts per week. In terms of what to post, there are very few rules. However, you do want to make sure to post things that accurately reflect who and what your business is. A great way to get ideas is to look at global brands that are similar to yours. See how highly successful companies market themselves online, then take that inspiration and apply it to your own posts.
If you are ever in need of more guidance or want someone else to manage your online presence, Shelby & Company is just the place! We would love to strategize with you or manage your social media for you.
